HEART mentoring

Open Heart Leaders Mentoring Program builds culturally responsive leaders. The program focuses on creating accountability and serving others, while developing life and leadership skills. Mentors and mentees participate in workshops, field trips, seminars, internships, and conferences. Become a mentor or mentee today!

The purpose of the OHL Mentoring Program is to uphold true accountability and responsibility of serving others, while equipping them with life skills and leadership development. The program exposes youth to positive role models who provide mentees with guidance, support and empathy. The mentor/mentee relationship is essential for breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for success. Our program accepts mentees from ages 14-18 years of age and Mentors college age and older( All of our Volunteers are required to do a background check through the agency). We operate on a group mentoring structure with individual mentoring available for special circumstances. A special tailored program curriculum was developed to help our youth combat generational trauma and systemic trauma that may arise in their lives.

  • September - June: This is our main program period, running for 10 months. Participants are actively engaged in activities, weekly meetings and community service during this time.

July: This month serves as a break from the program. Participants and staff may take this time for rest, reflection and vacation.

August: New Admission and Orientation month. This is when new participants are admitted into the program and go through an orientation process to familiarize themselves with the program's structure, expectations, and resources. Returning participants return first week of September after Labor Day.
